You cannot expect rationality from the personality disordered.
Either they're ASPD and simply don't care, they're just in it for whatever they get out of it (money, power, the 'game' of it, whatever) and will say/do whatever it takes to obtain it
... or else the very fabric of their being is, in some way, bound up with being 'right' about it and, never mind won't, they can't back down — you'll never convince them the alternatives aren't a threat to them any more than you will a paranoid schizophrenic that it's safe to take off the tinfoil.
At least 40% (if not vastly more) of the World's population is, to put it mildly, psychoemotionally fragile ... lacking in confidence, self-esteem or the courage to stand on their own ... terrified of being alone, desperate to belong, seeking some sort of meaning to offset the anomie of their meaningless existence, easy prey for predators who want to convince them of <whatever> for some self-serving purpose or other (even if it's only the pub bore who bolsters their own fragile ego lording it over them, with pronouncements from the Sun/Express/Mail, in 'Spoons after Work).
Also, bots have come on a very long way indeed in recent years. Not so much the last five, but there was an enormous leap in sophistication around 2014-to-2016/17 ... during which time, I had some seriously uncanny valley experiences with them myself — although, when one of them turned out to be an actual human being,I couldn't swear that wasn't itself even more disconcerting (and should, really have tipped me off to the fact somethig was seriously wrong, but I foolishly allowed myself to put it down to my having been overly cautious/suspicios *sigh*).
