You can further protect yourself by:

1. not using an Apple device, because
2. you can’t reliably persistently root/jailbreak them and
3. continue to use the app store

Also by:

1. rooting your Android phone with Magisk (which is systemless and, therefore, not only inherently much less risky than other methods but also reversible) and
2. installing microG to replace the Google Play Services, whilst still retaining access to OTA OS/security updates from your device OEM … and also to the App Store.
