Trumps’s …

Look … I’m in no position to make any kind of official diagnosis of him … and I’m not sure I’d be entirely happy to do so even if I were: after all this time, I’m still uncertain whether his behaviour reflects Narcissistic Personality Disorder, Antisocial Personality Disorder or both comorbid … or Antisocial Personality Disorder comorbid with Histrionic Personality Disorder … or even all three comorbid … and without longterm access to the man in order to get to the bottom of it, I’m unlikely ever to be confident of any conclusion I might attempt to draw.

I suspect there are a number of factors at play, not least that, as a rich man, he doesn’t need to care about being ‘Mr Nice’, just ‘Mr Rich’.

And, along with being spectacularly removed from any understanding of what it’s like to be a normal human being …. incapable of even appreciating (or, possibly, caring about) the value of optics … he’s not very bright, so it doesn’t cross his mind that some of his votes might depend upon people not only being taken in by his ‘outsider here to drain the swamp’ act but also upon their not being disillusioned by his other behaviour and, as a result, he doesn’t try to convince them that he does.

For someone with no empathy, a dog (or any other pet) is simply a burden … so why would he burden himself? If it can serve a purpose they might have one, but Trump’s not a hunter, not a drug dealer, doesn’t live in a bad neighbourhood and, whatever weakness of character he might have, clearly doesn’t feel he needs to impress others by proxy with a dangerous pet (or pets) either.

Why doesn’t he have one?

He’s got no use for one … it’s as simple as that.

Why doesn’t he get one for the optics?

He doesn’t appreciate their significance, doesn’t care about them or maybe both.

You don’t need to understand why he wouldn’t have one — you aren’t him.

You just have to listen to, and accept, the reason he already gave you: he doesn’t want one — he said as much with his observation that it would seem phony, if he had one … it would be a pretence.

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live and too rare to die.
