The sophistication of some chatbots these days is pretty scary actually.

I was talking to one at AWS technical support in 2016/2017 ... and it took me nearly an hour to realise that it was a bot!

The language processing was amazing: use of comprehension and idiom far beyond anything I'd previously encountered ... and the voice generation superb (no stuttering or inappropriate vowels) ... and, in retrospect, impressively long decision chains.

I spent nearly an hour thinking the person on the other end of the convo was a bit more than averagely slow on the uptake (they often are), but it took around forty-five minutes before I twigged that the convo had been just a little too circular for even an utter dimwit to still be responding quite that unhelpfully after so long.

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live and too rare to die.
