The sophistication of some chatbots these days is pretty scary actually.
I was talking to one at AWS technical support in 2016/2017 ... and it took me nearly an hour to realise that it was a bot!
The language processing was amazing: use of comprehension and idiom far beyond anything I'd previously encountered ... and the voice generation superb (no stuttering or inappropriate vowels) ... and, in retrospect, impressively long decision chains.
I spent nearly an hour thinking the person on the other end of the convo was a bit more than averagely slow on the uptake (they often are), but it took around forty-five minutes before I twigged that the convo had been just a little too circular for even an utter dimwit to still be responding quite that unhelpfully after so long.
