Oh, dear, no … not the remake … the subtitled original!

Heaven only knows how bad the remake is — I dread to think.

If I’m watching/reading/listening to something, I either do so in the original (if I speak the language) or else with subtitles … never a dubbed version or, worse yet, remake — the only time I have time for a dubbed version is if it’s dubbed from the original American (Dangerous Liaisons was much superior in German to the original U.S. ‘English’ for instance).

Wallander is pretty weak in terms of the overt plots, yes, but it’s not really about them, but about the relationship between Wallander and his daughter (and everyone else) … and, in the original version at least, there’s a great chemistry between the actors — the plots are simply a vehicle for that … the model wearing the designer’s clothes.

If you’re watching the remake, you should probably have my condolences — I can’t say for sure because, as I’ve said, there’s no way I’d waste my time watching it … but I imagine it’s more than likely had all its virtues squeezed out of it and then been pumped full of nonsense to make up for the lack of substance (never mind the quality, feel the width!)

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live and too rare to die.
