The English bang on about "Two world wars and one world cup!" over half a century after the latter ¹ and approaching eighty years after the end of the former.

Waterloo Bridge (in London) is so named to commemorate victory over the French in 1815.

Nelson's Column (in London) commemorates victory over the Spanish in 1805.

Apocryphal though the tale may be of how the English (and other British and Commonwealth subjects) came to "give the 'V' sign" as a result of the Battle of Agincourt in 1415 ... the fact remains that it is still a popular origin fable over six hundred years later!

The start of the ongoing feud between the English and the French will have taken place a thousand years ago in 2066 ... and yet they celebrate Robin Hood's fight against the Norman (sort of French) interlopers to this day!

The statue of Boadicea And Her Daughters in London was commissioned somewhere between 1851 and 1856 ... to commemorate a victory over the Romans almost eighteen hundred years previously in AD 60/61 (over half as long again before the fight with the French) — I don't know if there are monuments to anything even more ancient than that, but they've been holding onto that particular fight for going on one thousand, eight hundred years (the best part of two millennia)!!!

If the English are anything to go by then the South ain't gonna give up on commemorating its wounded pride any time soon, I don't think ... and I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you.
