Where Angels Fear

Nah, I was at an afterparty at someone’s house, with mutual friends and, in conversation, said it ‘in character.’

Months later, at yet another afterparty, it was the host’s birthday and eventually, he came over to speak to me for the first time in about eight months (during which time, I’d been to afterparties at his place at least once a month, more usually twice, sometimes even three times a month).

Afterwards, he said “I’m really glad I plucked up the courage to come and speak to you and find out who you are, rather than avoiding the scary guy in black in the corner.”

Turns out he’d overheard me way back when I was talking to friends and thought I meant it!

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live and too rare to die.
