Many, many moons ago, I actually went to the lengths of buying a ‘prank’ app.

It was a particularly vicious one: explicit, animated porn images … the actresses doing some quite extraordinary things with your files and your start menu … LOUD <ahem> ‘sound effects’ (if you get my drift) … that took over your system … leaving you know way to stop it other than to hard reboot / pull the plug on the PC.

I created a folder on a shared drive on the company network, set it’s attributes to hidden and read only, changed the icon of that folder to look like a file and gave it an innocuous but ‘official’ looking name (I forget what exactly, but something to do with Senior Management business) just in case anyone should go looking with the ‘show hidden and system files’ option checked in their file manager.

I put a copy of the executable in that folder and created a shortcut to it.

I moved that shortcut to the parent directory, changed the icon to that of a folder and renamed it …

DO NOT OPEN THIS FOLDER

Would you like to guess how many times I heard people shouting in shock/horror/terror and/or … rather more desperately … in the hope that it would cover the sounds emanating from speakers across the office?

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live and too rare to die.
