Like so many US citizens, you mistake the US for the World.
Go to Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal, France or Éire and you will see that the US idea of the nuclear family is as far from the reality of the West as is the idea that the POTUS is the ‘leader of the Free World’ (they aren’t, they’re the leader of the US) or that the World Series has any reason to be called the World Series (it hasn’t, it only takes place in the US and concerns a sport that is only played in the US).
You want to know where the US really fits in the World?
It’s less than half as populous as Europe.
And neither is anywhere near as large as Africa or has anything like the population of Africa.
Open your eyes … there’s a whole world out here — and we have, if not next to nothing in common with you, then a whole lot less than you realise.
