It may not be as big a problem as you fear.

After all, you can probably remember things now that you didn’t know then, so, something had to give to make way for the new knowledge.

Besides which, it seems to be a common enough problem (and one from which I recall suffering at a very young age already ¹ ) … sufficiently so for Douglas Adams and John Lloyd to immortalise in their book The Meaning of Liff:
