Well I really hope it’s not gonna be that bad… I intend to keep my eyes on it all though. Hoping it’ll be a few months of problems rather than a few years.
I’m also aware that it could happen, but I’m not expecting it. I won’t stop watching things progress though.
I'm not anticipating the absolute worst myself either — I'm not expecting brownouts, cooking over candles or catching rainwater in a tin, let alone having to gut you with a rusty spoon over the last tin of dogfood in a burnt out supermarket ¹.
But I do anticipate some inconvenient shortages for a while … and surprisingly rapid inflation — possibly, if it lasts six months or more, along with a return of the 1940s style black market where there’s a guy who can get you a few extras … for a price ².
As for coffee growing locally, I intended to be in the Philippines right now but Covid put an end to that one too…
Indeed, Life is what happens to you while you’re making other plans.
Your final words did make me laugh.
Good 😀
Don’t let the humour fool you though — despite the fact that it’s me saying them, they are nevertheless wise.
Off to buy some beans and pasta.
Beans!
Good call!
I hadn’t thought of that! ⁴

¹ Although that’s a bit disappointing: if I am gonna have to put up with a No Deal Brexit/pandemic combo, I feel that the least I should get in return is the opportunity to engage in some Mad Max / Fallout style activities (where did you say you lived again?)
² My grandmother worked in a supermarket, so … when the first sugar to become available in months came in … those who worked there were able to get a bit on top of the normal ration ³ and we were able to get our hands on 12lbs (6Kg) of sugar when others hadn’t seen any for weeks and weren’t going to either!
³ Yes, sugar was rationed in 1974.
⁴ Possibly due to my having suppressed all memory of them after an unfortunate incident involving a pressure cooker, clowns ⁵ and a wormhole in the SpaceTime Continuum, but I couldn’t say for sure ⁶.
⁵ Clowns are no laughing matter, believe me.
⁶ I appear to have suppressed all recollection of any such incident and, as a side effect thereof, beans altogether.
