If You Want To Know The Time, Ask A Policeman

As ever, it’s the BTL commentary that makes The Guardian such an essential read.

Of course, the “only the self-important think they are of any interest” variation on the “nothing to hide, nothing to fear” blatherings are, amusingly, so condescendingly dismissive that you can’t help but feel that the people making such observations are … well … u̶p̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶i̶r̶ ̶o̶w̶n̶ ̶a̶r̶s̶e̶ ̶t̶w̶a̶t̶s̶, ironically, a bit self-important.

Then there’s the naiveté of those who think legislation/regulation will resolve any concerns —because, when faced with the fact that their actions would be illegal, criminals are deterred, aren’t they?

Or of those who opine that local (on-device) processing is the answer — because the data couldn’t possibly be surreptitiously transmitted in the background at any time.

But best of all though, never mind SWATing you … the thirteen-year-old hacker you had a run-in with the other day will be able to lift your voice from an unfortunately unsecured server/device and fake a recording of you plotting an act of terrorism that they then turn in to the authorities, like the good, ethical citizen that they are — yep … I’m looking forward to that day alright.

Seriously … the more I look around me at the state of the World and listen to the people in it, the more convinced I am of that I’m going to have to exterminate the entire human race — so as to spare the other species we share the planet with any further embarrassment.

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live and too rare to die.
