Given that I am not insane, I can't help but entertain the possibility that I am wrong and the external world actually does have a sui generis existence ... because I cannot, for the life of me, find any other explanation for the idiots and nonsense with which I find myself surrounded — my mind isn't warped enough to invent them on its own.
