Normally, I agree ... and I prefer to watch in the original language (with subtitles, if I don't speak the original language myself).

But ...

I first saw Dangerous Liaisons dubbed into German.

Years later, I saw it in the original American.

It didn't work. There's just nothing about a tale of European affairs, set in Europe, that isn't immediately spoiled by the incongruity of an American accent.
