Hahahahaha!
We got Puffnstuff and the Banana Splits in the UK too — I was a little kid then and barely remember them, but remember them I just about do ☺️
I seem to recall the Banana Splits being something I tolerated whilst waiting for them to show Tales of the Arabian Knights (siii…iii…iiize of a hippoPOTamus!) and The Four Musketeers,
We also had Pogle's Wood, which ... along with Tog, the dayglo peach and orange striped tigerrabbitsquirrel hybrid (or whatever he was) ... involved a 'magic' plant, that regaled them stories (as like as not involving 'people' made from pipe-cleaners, holding hands and dancing in big circles and various other patterns not altogether un-reminiscent of a psychedelic experience). Hmmmm.

(Although I am a long since past grown man, I still want my very own Tog to this day).
Then there were the Clangers — some sort of genetic experiment undertaken to prove that, although a pig and an elephant DNA just won't splice, that of pink mice and anteaters seemingly will ... and, furthermore, is perfectly suited to living on the surface of a planet with no atmosphere.
The Soup Dragon (from whom they obtained the much coveted blue string soup) scared the bejeesus out of me ... and, if I’m honest, would probably still make me feel uncomfortable today.

The Magic Roundabout.
Whether or not it was influenced by the drug culture of the era or not , I couldn’t say — it's unlikely to have been directly so, I think (if you ask me, it was just French), but that didn't stop people speculating and declaring that each of the characters was 'clearly' a reference to a specific substance.
It was a national institution

There were many others over the course of the years, but those are the ones I remember most vividly.
