So … looking through various workplace L&D topics, with a view to generating some stories as a means of linking them all coherently into an overarching, character-based learning experience … because people remember stories better than dry facts … I was reading through the Conflict Resolution material and came to the section on Risk Factors.
It was interesting — a fascinating glimpse into my own psychology.
Things to contemplate in a potentially (or already) escalating situation:
Risk Factor / My Thought Process
Weapons, actual / Yes, I look for those.
Weapons, makeshift / Yep, those too.
Substances / Yeah, caustic liquids and powders.
Environmental / Obstacles, trip hazards, yup.
I contemplate all the possibilities wherever I go … whether I’m anticipating conflict or not — it pays to be situationally aware.
Other things that could be used to harm you.
Wait.
What?
Things that could be used to harm me?
Oh!
No … I hadn’t thought of that.
Hahahahaha … in any situation in which conflict could arise, it seems that the biggest risk factor is me, not them 😀
