Hippos are one of the most dangerous animals on the planet and the single most dangerous animal on the African continent.

They are the third-largest land mammal in the World (males averaging 3,310 lb, but weighing up to 5,860lbs in the wild and 9,920lbs in captivity) … can run around 19mph … ‘swim’ around 15mph … have ridiculously sharp (1' 8" long) teeth and massively strong jaws (the bite force of an adult female hippo has been measured as 8.1 kN / 1,800 lbf) in a (up to) four foot wide mouth which can be opened up to almost 180° … and are responsible for more human deaths on the African continent than any other large animal — over 500 per year (twice as many as lions).

They are unpredictable and aggressive … unafraid of humans, they will attack both cars and boats without provocation … and are the World’s deadliest land mammal.
